This training will provide knowledge of how to conduct and evaluate cement kiln and mill trials. Kiln and mill examinations are carried out in order to gather data on the performance and to validate warranty performance data such as the output, the energy consumption, input/output ratio or the efficiency. They also provide a reliable foundation for the optimisation of individual operational system components, the cement quality, the reduction of emissions levels and for assessment of material cycles and coating formations.
The SIMULEX® cement plant simulator for training plant supervisors, foremen, production personnel, control room operators and young engineers was developed by KHD Humboldt Wedag AG in cooperation with VDZ. For over ten years VDZ has been using the simulator within the framework of training courses and has been continually supporting the further development of the system with practical input from the industry. As a result, the simulator provides a realistic reconstruction of a cement plant with a state-of-the-art supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA).
Crash Course for Young Engineers and Young Scientists
The cement industry provides excellent job opportunities for young engineers and scientists. Training schemes introduce these new employees to cement technology, taking their different professional backgrounds into account. This online course provides a one-week in-depth training session which covers all relevant aspects of cement technology including chemistry, mineralogy and environmental aspects. Quality control as well as cement performance in mortar and concrete will also be covered.
This course covers all the relevant aspects concerning the use of alternative fuels in cement plants. Starting with the main political drivers such as the circular economy and the European waste fuel strategy, the training will give a detailed view of the current state-of-the-art-situation with regard to the use of alternative fuels in the EU. In this context, pre-treatment and suitable quality control of alternative fuels will be also explained and presented. A main focus will be given to the drivers and barriers of the use of alternative fuels within the burning process. Relevant aspects will be explained and discussed with the participants. Finally, technical feasibilities, case studies and possible optimisation potential will be part of the training course.
This Course covers all topics concerning the high efficiency and availability of a cement plant’s key machinery. Measurement of rotary kilns and ball mills as well as independent expertise in mechanical maintenance and inspections are also among the major aspects. Besides, we provide an extensive know-how transfer on high quality refractory kiln brick lining materials and installation including their relation to mechanical failure.
With the decarbonisation of cement production and the expected reduction in blastfurnace slag and fly ash quantities, unburned limestone, calcined clays, and recycled fines will gain in importance as cement main constituents. The focus will be on new, clinker-effcient cement types such as CEM II/C and CEM VI cements, whose performance allows a wide range of
applications in practice. This seminar provides an overview of the current state of development and standardisation of new cements. The possibilities and limits for practical implementation will be presented.

This In-Class Training consists of two modules: "Grinding Technology and Raw Material Preparation" (Module 1) as well as "Clinker Production and Material Technology" (Module 2). Each module has a duration of one week. The course gives a deep insight into cement production technology, covering topics from quarry operation to cement grinding.
VDZ's Education and Training Programme 2023/24 ranges from the teaching of technical basics to the imparting of special technical knowledge and education courses for managers. VDZ offers individual, tailor-made seminars on the topics of clinker and cement production, maintenance, quality assurance, environmental protection and concrete technology. Almost all seminars can also be designed and implemented as inhouse seminars according to individual customer requirements. In this new brochure you will also find two new seminar topics reflecting current developments in the cement and concrete industry.
Environmental Data of the German Cement Industry 2021
In keeping with our time-honoured tradition, this year's edition of the "Environmental data of the German cement industry" again provides an in-depth insight into the use of raw materials, energy input and the various emissions produced by German cement manufacturers. This encompasses not only the dust and dust bound constituents, but also the inorganic and organic exhaust gas compounds. A further aspect of
our environmental data is information on carbon dioxide emissions, the reduction of which is a particular focal point in connection with the decarbonisation of cement production.
