Research report: Use of X-ray fluorescence analysis to determine trace element contents in cements [in German]
Research projects
New functionalities of textile-reinforced concrete through titanium dioxide modifications Subsidiary project: fine-grained concrete and cement-bound adhesive
The working plan of the Research Institute of the Cement Industry was aimed at systematic investigation of the mix formulation and workability of a nano-based cement-bound adhesive.
ASR performance testing: extending the database to include the 60 °C concrete test with particular reference to cements with several main constituents
In the IGF (Cooperative Industrial Research) project the framework conditions for a possible performance test method for evaluating the alkali reactivity of concrete was calibrated on the basis of the requirements of the German regulations.
Reducing the environmental impact of concrete construction through new types of cement and the concrete produced from them using starting materials that are available in adequate quantities
The aim of this research project was the laboratory and industrial production and testing of cements that contain levels of limestone above the maximum content described in DIN EN 197-1.
Training
Crash Course on Cement Production and Use
Our training schemes introduce career starters to cement technology, taking their different engineering or scientific backgrounds into account. This course provides a one-week in-depth training session which covers all relevant aspects of the cement manufacturing process including chemistry, mineralogy and environmental aspects. Quality control and cement performance in mortar/concrete will also be addressed.
Grinding Technology in Cement Production
Raw material preparation and cement grinding are the first and the last major process steps during cement production. The energy demand of these two processes amounts to up to 70 % of the electrical energy used in a cement plant. This training will enable participants to obtain a better understanding of the comminution processes as well as the equipment used for material grinding to ensure high levels of availability. This altogether will allow an optimisation of production rates and reducing energy consumption.
Firing Alternative Fuels 2024
This course covers all the relevant aspects concerning the use of alternative fuels in cement plants. Starting with the main political drivers such as the circular economy and the European waste fuel strategy, the training will give a detailed view of the current state-of-the-art-situation with regard to the use of alternative fuels in the EU. In this context, pre-treatment and suitable quality control of alternative fuels will be also explained and presented. A main focus will be given to the drivers and barriers of the use of alternative fuels within the burning process. Key issues will be explained and discussed with the participants. Finally, technical feasibilities, case studies and optimisation potential will be part of the training course.
Events
VDZ Congress 2024
The 9th International VDZ Congress will take place in Düsseldorf on 6 – 8 November 2024. The VDZ Congress is the international scientific forum for the cement industry and its suppliers. Delegates from all over the world will come together to discuss the latest developments and challenges concerning the transformation of the cement industry on its way towards climate neutrality.
