In conjunction with the latest cement-specific findings from science, consultation and research, this forms the ideal foundations for our consulting work in the field of environmental compatibility. Besides drafting of environmental verification reports, our range of services further includes creation and review of licensing applications as well as competent start-to-finish support and consultation in licensing procedures under pollution control law. Support for licensing procedures under pollution control law

Plants subject to Appendix 2 of the fourth protective decree for immissions of the Fed. Rep. of Germany, which through their design or operation present a particular potential to cause environmental damage, require a permit for construction and operation or when undergoing substantial modification under the German Federal Ambient Pollution Protection Regulation. We offer our services as independent technical experts throughout all stages of the licensing procedure from preparation to submission of the application and will also support you with our technical competence and reliability in any exchanges with the parties involved. If your project requires an environmental compatibility test, we offer to handle the entire management, preparation and execution across all fields.

Determination and assessment of a project’s emission effects

We have many years of experience in predicting and modelling the emission behaviour of dust, airborne pollutants and trace elements produced when burning clinker or producing cement. We have access to the findings from a diverse range of past and current research projects and the data from a multitude of plant measurements.

Our range of services comprises:

  • Forecast of combustion conditions, e.g. when employing alternative raw materials and fuels
  • Forecast of emission levels for all relevant exhaust gas compounds
  • Forecast of emission behaviour of trace elements
  • Modelling of mercury circulation cycles

Determination and assessment of a project’s environmental impact

To determine and assess a project’s environmental impact, we perform dispersion calculations using the AUSTAL2000 software in accordance with the regulations as laid down in the Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control. This computes a model of how dust and airborne pollutants (e.g. SO2, NOx, HCl, HF, PCDD/F or trace elements) or odours will disperse in the atmosphere under the actual and the planned conditions. The environmental-impact values determined are compared with the impact values listed in the Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control and the 39th protective decree for immissions of the Fed. Rep. of Germany and with additional recognised preventive standards and are assessed in detail.

Analysis of chemical substances

Our environment laboratory offers examinations, including environmental analysis. Our lab personnel can determine the content of chemical substances such as chloride, nitrate (NOx), ammonium, sulphate (SO2, SO3), fluoride, bromide and organic constituents (TOC) in liquid or solid samples such as raw materials or kiln meal.

Identifying ammonium, sulphate and TOC in liquids or solids is of great importance in the cement industry with regard to raw-material-induced emissions. Our gas laboratory/thermal laboratory employs a specially designed gas liberation apparatus to determine the concentration of highly volatile organic constituents, carbon monoxide, ammonia and sulphur dioxide in selected raw meal samples. By applying additional parameters, this subsequently allows estimation of the raw-material-induced emissions at the designated site. Our experts then compile a commentary on the emissions in a technical report.
