High-performance clinker for blastfurnace cements

Aim of the project is to improve the early strength performance of blastfurnace cements by a systematic adjustment of the clinker phase composition and/or addition of mineralisers in the clinker production process.

The results of the studies and the knowledge obtained therefrom will contribute to the systematic determination of the optimal mineralogical composition of clinker with regard to the reactivity of ground granulated blastfurnace slag. The amount of the four clinker phases (C3S, C2S, C3A, and C4AF), and modifications of C3A, will be systematically varied in laboratory clinkers, and the interaction of these clinkers with two different types of blastfurnace slag will be studied. Furthermore, the influence of different mineralised clinkers on the early strength development of blastfurnace cements will be determined. Moreover, aspects of sulphate optimization will be investigated.

The specifically adjustment of the clinker blast furnace slag interaction will improve the cement performance. As a result, the preconditions for the further development of the economic and ecological advantages which are associated with the use blastfurnace cements will be created.
