BetonQuali - information and qualification platform

The concrete industry has a high proportion of employees coming in from other professions. In addition, available trainee positions often remain unoccupied. At the same time, growing requirements for the workforce in terms of technological development are leading to a qualification gap that is now becoming difficult to bridge with existing development and training programmes.

BetonQuali

"BetonQuali - information and qualification platform", a joint project of VDZ gGmbH and its project partners, aims to develop and test a training method for semi-skilled and unskilled employees in the concrete industry. Here, unskilled means "without vocational qualification"; semi-skilled means "with a vocational qualification in another discipline and out of this profession for over three years". An innovative didactic concept adapted to the needs of the target group was developed for BetonQuali. In the didactic concept the practical knowledge of the learner and the operational conditions are taken into account.

In the research project funded by BMBF, a digital information and qualification platform was developed that follows on from the industry-specific "Knowledge Network Cement-Lime-Concrete". Tools for determining and documenting existing skills and deriving individual training plans were developed. Online learning with the information and qualification platform aims to support self-organised, flexible learning and will be combined with traditional attendance-based events. Additionally, company trainers support the platform users' learning process. The primary objectives are to interlink employees' learning and working processes more closely, keep absence from work low, and promote willingness and motivation to learn among participants.

The project is to serve as a best practice example for the integration of digital learning materials into company development programmes and aims to establish a new development concept for the concrete industry that is also suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

During the term of the research project, BetonQuali was developed and tested. After the term of the project, BetonQuali is operated by The German Ready-Mixed Concrete Association (Bundesverband der Deutschen Transportbetonindustrie - BTB).

The project was being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the European Social Fund.
