Performance-based concept for sufficient ASR resistance of concrete
The thesis developed a "Performance-based concept for sufficient ASR resistance of concrete" to more effectively prevent damage to concrete structures due to alkali-silica reaction (ASR). This is based on a new method for testing and evaluating the effective alkali content, especially of clinker-efficient cements with several main constitutens, and on the results of the long-term behaviour of concrete cubes in outdoor exposure site tests.
Stability of calcined clays during storage
Research projects
Influence of the reduction of melting point and viscosity of the clinker melt by ashes of alternative fuels on sintering reactions and coating formation
A database was compiled which cement manufacturers can use to influence and further optimise the formation of the melt phase by selecting suitable alternative fuels and their proportion.
Optimal compaction of concretes with high workability and high robustness
The aim of this research project was to create basic knowledge on the results of different processing and compaction measures in correlation with the properties of the fresh concrete.
ECo – Efficient Co-Electrolyser for Efficient Renewable Energy Storage
The aim of ECo project was to utilise CO₂ for co-electrolysis SOEC in combination with electricity production from renewable sources for storage as methane presented an interesting approach to handling CO₂ emissions from the cement industry in a future sustainable energy system.
Training
VDZ E-learning
With us, you can expand your knowledge around the production of cement and lime, as well as in the area of concrete technology. As a competent partner, we have been offering our customers individual qualification solutions since 2010. In addition to German-language online courses, we also offer English- and Russian-language courses and other services.
Grinding Technology in Cement Production
Raw material preparation and cement grinding are the first and the last major process steps during cement production. The energy demand of these two processes amounts to up to 70 % of the electrical energy used in a cement plant. This training will enable participants to obtain a better understanding of the comminution processes as well as the equipment used for material grinding to ensure high levels of availability. This altogether will allow an optimisation of production rates and reducing energy consumption.
Cements of the Future
With the decarbonisation of cement production and the expected reduction in blastfurnace slag and fly ash quantities, unburned limestone, calcined clays, and recycled fines will gain in importance as cement main constituents. The focus will be on new, clinker-effcient cement types such as CEM II/C and CEM VI cements, whose performance allows a wide range of applications in practice. This online seminar provides an overview of the current state of development and standardisation of new cements. The possibilities and limits for practical implementation will be presented.
Events
VDZ Congress 2024 - Registration is now open
The 9th International VDZ Congress will take place in Düsseldorf on 6 – 8 November 2024. The VDZ Congress is the international scientific forum for the cement industry and its suppliers. Delegates from all over the world will come together to discuss the latest developments and challenges concerning the transformation of the cement industry on its way towards climate neutrality.
