The aim was to determine systematically the granulometric influences of the main constituents Portland cement clinker (K), limestone (LL), blastfurnace slag (S) and fly ash (V) as well as the substance-specific impacts of the particle size distributions on cement, mortar and concrete properties.

The research project aimed to investigate whether the limitation on use of recycled water in ready-mixed concrete works for air-entrained and high strength concrete that is in place in all three involved countries is justified, or whether it could be abolished.

VDZ and the Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) investigated whether it is possible to define an alkali sensitivity class E II-S on the basis of the 40 °C concrete test with cloud chamber storage. In addition, criteria for the rapid test procedure and the 60 °C concrete test as well as the BTU-SP rapid test were also derived.

The aim of the investigations was to answer the question as to whether the K-S-LL system can be used to manufacture durable concretes using clinker-efficient cement under framework conditions that still need to be defined.

In the IGF (Cooperative Industrial Research) project the framework conditions for a possible performance test method for evaluating the alkali reactivity of concrete was calibrated on the basis of the requirements of the German regulations.
