In Germany, the costs of supporting renewable energies are spread out by means of reallocation to the power consumer in accordance with the renewable energies act (EEG). Firms with high electricity consumption can be partly relieved of this if they fulfil the strict quantitative and qualitative requirements of the EEG‘s special equalisation scheme. The aim of the scheme is to protect companies that use a lot of power due to the nature of their processes from losing their competitiveness vis-à-vis competing locations in other countries inside and outside of Europe. Recently there has been much heated discussion on the amount and distribution of costs under the EEG. Alongside the promotion of renewable energies, the relief of power-intensive firms has been subject to criticism. The present study by EEFA-Forschungsinstitut GmbH & Co. KG, Münster empirically investigates the international competition situation of the German cement industry in this context. The focus of the analysis is on the intensity of power costs for cement manufacture, the exposure of cement companies to international competition – both inside and outside of Europe – and the significance of EEG relief for the preservation of cement production and employment in Germany. The latter is evaluated in view of the expected effects of a potential increase in power costs on the sector and the German economy as a whole.

Request publicationProperties of finely dispersed materials from the recycling of mineral construction waste and their use in cement - effects on water absorption, hydration and pore structure (The report is written in German)
The thesis developed a "Performance-based concept for sufficient ASR resistance of concrete" to more effectively prevent damage to concrete structures due to alkali-silica reaction (ASR). This is based on a new method for testing and evaluating the effective alkali content, especially of clinker-efficient cements with several main constitutens, and on the results of the long-term behaviour of concrete cubes in outdoor exposure site tests.
The aim of the AiF research project was to identify the causes of the sometimes greater scatter rates in the analysis results in the case of comparison trials for the long-term tank test.
The aim of the research project was to find out why some CEM I-SR and CEM III/B-SR cements do not meet the criteria for high sulfate resistance (SR) under all conditions of the SVA test method, the common accelerated test method in Germany; although these cements show high sulfate resistance in practice.
The aim of the project was to investigate the suitability of the Ono method for evaluation of burning conditions even on clinker burnt with alternative fuels. Furthermore the focus of the project was the development of a methodology for correlations between microscopically and mineralogically analysed clinker properties and burning conditions.
The aim of the research project was to investigate the suitability or usefulness of dolomitic carbonate rocks as a main cement constituent and to define requirements for dolomitic carbonate rocks as required for the production of high-performance dolomitic cements and concretes of high durability.
Interactions between different structured or modified methyl hydroxyethyl celluloses and cements blended with limestone, blastfurnace slag or fly ash were determined.
VDZ's Education and Training Programme 2024/25 ranges from teaching technical basics and technical expertise to further training for managers. We offer individual, tailor-made seminars on the topics of clinker and cement production, maintenance, quality assurance, environmental protection, and concrete technology. In this new brochure you will find two new seminar topics reflecting current developments in the cement and concrete industry.
