Background and goals of the research project

Due to their reduced clinker content cements with several main constituents offer the possibility of reducing CO2 emissions in cement production. If cements containing limestone are used in accordance with DIN EN 197-1 in concrete in accordance with DIN EN 206-1/DIN 1045-2, whose use in the concrete standard is ruled out or severely restricted, a national technical approval will have to be applied for with the German approval body Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt).

The process technology of cement production may partially not only have a considerable effect on cement properties but also on the result of durability tests on concrete. The aim is to determine systematically the granulometric influences of the main constituents Portland cement clinker (K), limestone (LL), blastfurnace slag (S) and fly ash (V) as well as the substance-specific impacts of the particle size distributions on cement, mortar and concrete properties.

On the basis of approval relevant testing and assessment criteria the performance of the cements results pursuant to DIN EN 197 for cement and pursuant to DIN EN 206-1/DIN 1045-2 for concrete. Finally, the results will contribute to a wider range of application for cements containing limestone.
